Did not run today bc of the shin pain yesterday, I emailed my doctor and he asked me to take 72 hours off, and so I will ☹️

Very sad run, was feeling good but then shin pain came and it was sharp, had to walk back, for tmrw I’m gonna be super careful to warmup slowly and well. Something that people have told me that I didn’t fully appreciate is how frustrating return from injury can be when you’re doing everything perfectly or as instructed and things still don’t always work the way we think they will. Still 🫡, staying dialed and I’ll see if maybe it was just the concrete

Nice run with Reda, appreciate everyone waiting for me while I was lost 😬 A bit sore now, but this is normal with the mileage increase, making sure to take recovery very seriously

First day of summer running, gonna make sure to log religiously! Walked down 3 hills to avoid the pressure on my leg but run felt fine otherwise, no pain. @IanMaxwell the new pfp is fire 🔥

First run with no pain, walked the first 10 mins and then nice easy jog, I think this is the way to fully coming back. I just gotta remember to take it slow these first couple of runs, bc getting it wrong the first time already wasn’t fun…

Another mile down! Today was weird, first time after that I felt something close to pain but it wasn’t during it was after. Will continue monitoring as always. Link for people who want to watch the webinar: https://www.youtube.com/live/SBDUpKLQxMc?si=G5Fb3jb9FaO76oJh Also quick reminder for everyone but we need to remember to log everyday when we’re not meeting as a group, it’s the only way we can keep each other accountable, this was one of our pillars over winter conditioning and we should maintain that now!!!!

The Bakken webinar was quite past paced and so I wasn’t able to take all my notes in that first time watching. I’ve watched it now again, and I’ve been able to pause and take as many notes as I want, here they are: 1. He stressed not to overdo it. 2. Avoid the gray zone, this requires discipline and the knowledge that patience will get you the best results. 3. Quality over intensity always, this is why he suggests to do double threshold bc it allows for faster recovery without as much breakdown of the muscles. 4. Muscular system is the limiter, we know our bodies. I’d argue with stress sometimes we can’t always trust our bodies. This is where his recommendation of a slow first mile on runs comes in. We always went out fast for our first mile during easy runs and so going forward I’m going to take my first bit of a run extra slow to really allow myself to settle in. 5. Triple threshold isn’t as good, he did the testing already. 6. Mike Smith has adopted this training for a long time. I’m doing other research right now on his training, and threshold stuff like this has already come up. 7. Everyone should read the book, it does a better job explaining than any notes ever could. 8. Rojo doesn’t know how to shut up sometimes, it was a short webinar as it was, and Bakken didn’t have enough opportunities to talk. Last thing: I’m curious what other Illinois distance power houses do for training noe though. @NoahLawrence have you ever talked with Sandburgs coach John O’Malley? DGN’s Adelmann? The York coach(es)? Not that we should help our conference competitors out, but they have found success historically and I’m curious what their thoughts on what Bakken is saying, and if they’re going to add in anything from Bakkens book.
