Weekly goals: Have fun, check, have fun, check, have fun, check, have fun, check, have fun, check. This may be a long one, so be warned. I don’t even know where to begin. I guess I’ll start with the moment Rogers and I were compacted by a closing wall of DGN guys and forced to tumble around, which needed up scrapping me up pretty bad and shaking Rogers in the process. After that moment I kind of just realized that I needed to get up and not dwell and somehow I managed to hit 4:47 ish I’d say and enjoy my last race. Definitely not what I was expecting but I’m glad it happened after I got to run 4:33 at McCarthy and Rogers got sub 10 there too. We both easily could’ve gone sub 4:30, and maybe have won our heat given a good race since our synergy is insane, but who cares really. Times don’t matter to me and I’m certain Rogers will be doing greater and bigger things in a year from now so. Also I was worried that I was gonna be scared to take a break since I would lose my peak fitness but I realized that this is definitely not my peak fitness, I can become something much more fit some day, we’ll see where I go from here but I’m near certain that this won’t be my peak physical condition for my life. I’m gonna be smart and take my 2 weeks ish and I suggest everyone returning does the same. Today I got to witness the pinnacle of the freshmen group at Hinsdale Central. Got to spend it with my best friends. Got to say goodbye to everyone. Got to get my favorite song playing during my race. Got to enjoy a post race dinner with the team. Got so much out of today, all because of the effort we gave in this single track season. I don’t know if all the freshmen will return for cross country but lemme tell you, if you even think about quitting you are going to miss a legendary team. 8 freshmen sub 5. Never been done before EVER. Stick with it and you’ll see that you’ll do things you never thought to be capable of. Alright enough about that. I know for everyone returning you guys are focused on the grind this summer and are ready to tackle things more and harder than ever. I think that’s wonderful but please, every once and a while just stop, look around you, I mean turn your head around and really look around you and just look at your teammates, look at the place you are in, look at how fast objects pass by you with ease, look, and then go. When you are grateful for each and every moment you realize that in the end the only thing that matters is to have fun, that’s what the seniors from last year told us and I’m pretty sure all of our seniors this year did that. You’ll have plenty of amazing memories to forge this next year together, remember to share them with your teammates by lifting them up rather than trying to only beat them. Finally, I just want to let everyone and anyone who reads this know that if they need to someone to talk to, get some advice from, get a laugh from, or whatever just shoot me a text and I’ll respond. I’ll be there for you guys when you need it even if I’m not running with you boys anymore. Don’t be shy, I’m confident I can help you with any running related problem, high school related problem, or personal life related problem or at least figure out a way for you to potentially solve that problem after what I went through these 4 years. See ya brothers, it was a pleasure racing with every single one of you!
