I finally broke five!!! After a lot of races in the 5:08-5:13 range throughout outdoors, I Finally did it at the last meet of the season. I thought I started well but kind of turned by brain off a bit for the 700-1100 quarter of the race because I was just trying to stay with the guys near me and it was hurting really bad. It’s such a great feeling to see everyone you know and you’ve trained with for so long to be cheering for you on the sideline, running back and forth just to see you run and hopefully motivate you. I remember seeing Aaron Doohry in a black shirt 100 meters in to the final lap and I thought to myself you really have to go now because these people came to see you race and it would be really cool to break 5 with my whole team and a bunch of alumns there. Then coming out to the last 100 I saw coach screaming at me and that sort of triggered me to focus on my form and give it all I had for the final 100. When I finished the sprinters were the first ones there(obviously) and I think that says a lot about this team because I don’t train with them or run with them but we know each other and they were there with the results pulled up waiting to see if I would get it or not. Aaaand at first I didn’t it was 5:00.11 which was really sad not because I didn’t think I would ever get it but because I knew breaking it with everyone there would mean so much more than at magis or some random race in the summer. But then, the results got changed somehow I think it was because my number on my chest came off so they used the picture instead and it was an awesome experience to celebrate that with the people around me which I’ll never forget. Also congrats to rumi and hashim for breaking 5 too, and Walter for running a great pr. It will be sad to see all of the seniors leave, because I’ve developed such great relationships with all of the uncs in such a short amount of time, especially Patrick, Alex, and anand who definitely made running more fun and will be missed.
