Tough workout this morning. Did an easy 800 tempo at 2:50 and then did 2 x 400s. For the first one I ran just under 60 and for the second one I ran a 58. After did 4 x 200s at 29 seconds. Starting to get used to the speed workouts.

SUB 2 at sectionals and qualified to state! I took the advice from the team meeting to ignore the pressure from sectionals and it helped greatly. I was the first leg of our 4x800 team and I sat behind first most of the race and then made my move at the 600m mark. I closed really well and honestly had a good amount left in the tank and wasn’t completely dead after. The rest of the team did what they needed to in order to qualify to state and it was a great feeling. I ended running somewhere between 1:59.2-1:59.8 since the splits were kind of off. Later I doubled back in the 800 with Coop and made the mistake of going out too slow and I ended up paying for it by having to pass a lot of people at the end. I managed to run 2 flat which I am pretty happy with and I think it shows I can go for a faster time next week. I can’t wait to run at state soon and my main goal going in is just to have some fun and take advantage of the last race of the season!

Hard workout today. Did 2x600s at race pace with 2x200s between reps. I definitely went out too fast and paid for it in the second rep. My splits were 1:33, 1:38, 30, 30. Still getting used to these kinds of workouts.

Great race at conference yesterday. I was super nervous going into my race since the conditions were so bad. But seeing Johnny and Elliot race so well before me helped my confidence. By the time the gun went off all the fear and stress went away and I competed as best as I could. The first lap felt smooth and I put myself in good position to pass first. In the next 200 meters I saw him slow down and saw my opportunity to pass him. The race started to really hurt in that last 150 meters but I knew the gap I had made was enough to secure first and I just needed to get through the line. I ran a 2:00.66 which is a small pr but winning was my only goal. This race definitely gave me some good motivation and confidence going into sectionals and I am ready to hit sub 2.

12 x 200m workout with MD today on the track. I averaged around 31 seconds for each rep and my legs felt pretty tired towards the end. Felt good to try out something new.

Unforgettable meet tonight at McCarthy. Mark, Johnny, Ian, and I broke the all time sophomore school record for the 4 x 800m by 6 seconds! I’m super proud to see the hard work they all put in pay off. Seeing them all run prs and put us in the perfect position for the record was the reason I was able to push myself. On Monday I had caught a cold and was worried the whole week leading up the race I would fail but ended up running a 2:00.8 and I know I am right at the verge of sub 2 in the coming weeks. Afterwards I ran the mile and matched my pr which I am pretty satisfied with considering I doubled. I am really glad to see guys like Elliot and Miller who hit some big PRs along with the rest of the team. Can’t wait to see how the rest of the season unfolds!
