Run

Under the Lights (yesterday), ran 5:00.1. Prep was perfect but overall I’m super disappointed in myself, this is the third time I’ve run between 4:59 and 5:00. I was going for sub 4:50 and I know I’m in shape to do it but I feel like I really struggle with the mental part of racing. My first 800 was perfect, split was 2:24 I think. When I was starting the third lap I knew I was going to have to push but I pushed too hard and entered my anaerobic state so with 600 to go I started to fade. Even then, I had to run a 69 sec lap to hit 4:50 but my kick was just nonexistent and I ran a 79, got passed by like 10 people. I think I just need to practice pushing mentally and race smarter. Anyway now I’m just more motivated for cross country season and I’m gonna work as hard as I can.
Anyway watching the races was super fun, shout-out to Josh for sub 6, Rumi for an amazing race, Hashim for scraping sub 5 with a huge PR, Melkus for his signature kick, Posthuma and Johnny for huge PRs, and Mark and Tims for sub 5. Sorry if I missed anyone. Kinda crazy that they have the freshman record for # of people sub 5.
Gonna miss the seniors so much. Each and every one of them mean so much to me. Devin is a leader for the whole team, Antonio is the embodiment of discipline, Kurm (and Max) show what hard work can do even in 2 years, Max proved his commitment even with his injury this season, and Aden’s just him (see you at the next wedding). Cubbin and Melkus have become really close friends and I’ve had a lot of great times with both of them. Melkus I’ll never forget our spot you better not either. Anyway all of you have been super inspiring for me during the past 2 years, helped me get motivated to start training again after my injury, and become role models and friends in every aspect. Gonna miss you so much. In case you didn’t realize I was joking on Tuesday when I said “not much to say about that”. Thanks for everything. Godspeed boys
