Conference 800. I was super excited to run today, but super nervous as well. This season didn’t go as I had hoped, and I was nervous of not getting a PR. Did everything like usual, and tried to stay calm. Talked with the guy who walked with us to the line about any goals, and I told him I was hoping to go at least under 2:55. When I got to the area, Coach told me something that definitely helped me, “Turn your mind off, just RACE”. This helped me a ton as I was super nervous going up to the line. As soon as the gun went off I tried as hard as I could to get out. I felt really good, and kept pushing myself harder and harder. I unfortunately got boxed in at some point in the first lap, and that screwed me over. The same guy that got in front of me and slowed back did end up beating me just by 0.02 seconds, but I feel like this meet was very successful for me. I had had issues this whole season trying to run with packs similar to my pace for every meet as I’m not as fast as everyone else. It would always set me off when I would be going against people who were 20-30+ seconds faster than me. This meet was very different, I did have a pack of people to keep myself by, and I was actually able to push myself beyond what I thought I was capable of.
